HUSKER SPORTS
Husker seniors named on preseason awards watch lists
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska seniors Marlon Lucky and Joe Ganz have been named to watch lists for top college football awards.
Lucky, an I-back, is on the Maxwell Award watch list, which goes to the nation's top player. He averaged 84.9 yards on the ground per game last year and rushed 1,038 yards. The North Hollywood, Calif., native set the single-season school record with 75 passes for 705 yards.
Ganz is on the list for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, given to the top senior quarterback.
After serving as a backup in the first eight games, Ganz took over late in the Texas game.
He went on to start the final three games. He connected on 58.6 percent of his passes while throwing for 1,453 yards and 16 touchdowns.

ROCKIES BASEBALL
Cook provides a remedy: Rockies finally get a win, 4-0
DENVER (AP) - Aaron Cook tossed a five-hitter for the first shutout of his career, and the Colorado Rockies ended an eight-game losing streak with a 4-0 win over the San Diego Padres last night.
Cook (11-5) struck out four and needed 79 pitches and 1 hour, 58 minutes for his second complete game of the season, eighth of his career. He didn't allow a runner past first base and faced just three batters over the minimum. On July 25, 2007, he needed just 74 pitches in a 10-2 complete-game win over the Padres.
Cook, who also had a hit, received a resounding cheer from the 26,221 fans at Coors Field as he came to bat in the bottom of the eighth.
