|Sidney High Mixed Octet opened the second day of
the Nebraska State Wrestling Tournament with the
singing of the National Anthem
OMAHA — After winning their first round matches, Trey Arellano (51-3) and Derek Robb (54-0) advanced to the semifinals with quarterfinal wins on Thursday evening. Arellano defeated Mason Brumbaugh (25-21) of Hastings by technical fall 18-0to move into Friday night’s semis where he will meet Nicholas Stoltenberg of Omaha Skutt.
Derek Robb (54-0) pinned his way to the semifinals with a first round pin over Anthony Moyer (38-12) of Fairbury in 1:23, and then a pinned Garrett Cornwell (36-17) of Boone Central/Newman Grove in :54. Derek will now wrestle Cody Everhart (46-6) of Gretna in Friday night’s semifinals.
In other first round action for Sidney, Paul Houser lost a major decision to Caleb Lazure (27-10) of Omaha Skutt Catholic 10-2 at 106. Paul will wrestle Sean Martin (21-8) of Seward this afternoon in the first round of consolations.
At 126, Kaden Vowers (40-11) lost a tough 2-0 decision to Tyler Cunningham (42-4) of Gretna. Kaden now faces Joel Smith (30-14) of Hastings this afternoon in the first round of consolations.
KC Higer (37-13) lost by pin At 132 to Brody Bashus (38-13) of Plattsmouth in 4:45. KC moves into the first round of consolations against Alex Ernest (20-17) of Lakeview.
